Wanyama hailed as Spurs MOTM v City

How Tottenham came away from the Etihad with a point remains a mystery just a couple of hours after the game.

Manchester City were excellent in comparison to their shellacking at Everton just six days ago.

Pep Guardiola’s side put on a masterclass of attacking football and the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach showed real nous against Tottenham.

By playing Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling on the wings, Pep pinned back Danny Rose and Kyle Walker more than they have been of late.

As a result, they took advantage in the middle of the park with Yaya Toure playing with real experience throughout.

And, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne were able to play the tiki-take football we all expect from City and Pep.

The Victor Wanyama position

Standing in their way was Victor Wanyama – an absolute colossus at the back for Spurs.

Pep’s tinkering meant the centre of the pitch became a problem for Spurs, with Moussa Dembele a powerful yet peripheral presence on the City pressure.

This caused initially, Eric Dier to step into midfield half way through the first half.

Then came the Kevin Wimmer substitution and Toby Aldeirwereld injury which saw Wanyama again playing alongside Dier, in the centre of the defence.

Quite simply everything that was thrown at Wanyama was met with equal force with some even suggesting the Claude Makelele position should be renamed…
