Terrible news for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil before Chelsea

Chelsea v Arsenal

There’s a massive Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, as reigning champs Chelsea take on London rivals Arsenal.

Last season, Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-0 at the beginning of the campaign at the Emirates Stadium, and that result proved pivotal.

That’s because Antonio Conte reacted by adopting three-at-the-back for the Blues, and it’s the system Chelsea have rolled out ever since.

More recently, Arsenal have also beaten the Blues in the FA Cup and in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Chelsea, however, triumphed over Arsenal in a pre-season friendly in China.

Bad news forMesut Ozil

Can Arsene Wenger upset Conte’s Chelsea today?

Well, if the Gunners are to execute a surprise away win, they are likely to have to do so without German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil.

According to widespread rumours which broke on Saturday night, Ozil is set to miss the Chelsea game with an injury.

It’s unclear what’s the nature of Ozil’s setback. For the record, the playmaker also missed Thursday night’s 3-1 win over Cologne in the Europa League.

It’s also worth noting that Jack Wilshere will play no part in Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge as he’s been omitted from the Arsenal matchday squad.

Top six hoodoo

If history is anything to go by, Chelsea should feel extremely confident heading into the Arsenal game.

The Gunners’ last win at Stamford Bridge came almost six years ago. A hat-trick from Robin van Persie guided Wenger’s side to a 5-3 win.

In fact, in the last 21 matches away to clubs in last season’s top six, Arsenal have only picked up two victories. Defeat on Sunday would be their sixth consecutive defeat in such games.

Defeat on Sunday would also be Arsenal’s third of the campaign after just five matches.
